Outlaw I'm not giving my opinion so my opinion doesn't matter here. Everything I stated was fact. But I've seen some of your post before so I really didn't expect you to say anything intelligent anyway.

Tower Of Babel
by Blue Grass innote:this was a post i made on another thread but i felt it was off topic so i giving it it's own thread.. someone(who i can't remember) on a thread(which i can't remember) said the tower of babel story is proven false because some languages evolved from others and thus that was another strike against the bible as being fiction.
however this person doesn't realize that there are languages on this earth that has absolutely no relation whatsoever such as chinese-english, spanish-arabic, greek-xhosa, etc.
not to mention all of the ancient languages that are now extinct due to invading countries forcing their own language on other countries.

What I'm saying is there are languages in use today that shows no relation to certain other languages. Some examples of these would be English-Chinese, Hindi-Russain, and Greek-Arabic.

PSacramento you're completely missing the point. A person's opinion doesn't matter in this case. There is clear evidence that some languages have no relation to each other and that's a fact that's not open to debate. I fail to see why you keep bringing up opinions from other people as if their opinions somehow change the facts. The fact remains however that there are plenty of languages that differ completely in grammar, pragmatics, semantics, syntax, alphabet/ abjad / abudida , etc. and have nothing in common. The opinions of your friends or teacher will not change that fact.

A Question for Blue Grass
by marmot insince i noticed you seem to take particular offense at atheism or anything that contradicts a literal interpretation of the bible, could you explain to me your view of noah's flood?.
.
because that's the fable that made me stop believing in the god of the bible..

Sorry Jookbeard, you're wrong on all counts. It's already been proven via DNA that all humans stem from one man. This is one instance where the Bible and science agree 100%.

Jookbeard I dont understand what you're saying. You speak of these "Aboriginal people" as if the're not human. How can you trace a certain group of people 20,000 years back and not others? Even science agrees that all mankind comes from one man.

The Book of Jasher I'm reffering to is the one translated from Hebrew in 1840 by J.H Parry.

Whether the flood was global or just in the middle east area is irrelevant. The point is all human beings except Noah and his sons and their wives were saved. As far as physical evidence is concerned, we know that there is evidence that some mountains in Turkey(I think) were fully submerged under water which would support the view of the flood being located only where the human population was. On the other hand we know that the earth is at least 70% water and if the ice caps in the north and south pole were to melt the earth would be fully submerged underwater. So there is some evidence for either view. No matter how it happened I do believe a flood destroyed mankind.

PSacramentos says: "Now, I speak English, French, Portugese, Spanish and a smudge of Japanese and I don't even have a "thing" for languages, but even in those I can see some commonalites."
This isn't revelant to the point I'm trying to make about languages today that show no realation especially since every language you speak belong to the same family. A native speaker of English can become fluent in Spanish, French, or Portugese in only two years because they're all similar. As for your friend I feel you're fabricating a little bit but he's not here to confirm anything you say so it doesn't matter.
OnTheWayOut says: "But it was already pointed out that taking the "Tower of Babel" story literally means taking the tower literally.
How tall was it going to be? Would it really reach the heavens in some way that disturbed God?"Here's a prime example of people critizing verses they don't understand. God wasn't angry because of the hieght of the tower but because of why the tower was being built and what it symbolized to Nimrod. The Book Of Jasher goes into more detail about why Nimrod was building the tower. Even though I don't endorse the Book Of Jasher as being 100% canonical, it does contain a lot of accurate information.
